Saint Prokopios beach

Share

Saint Prokopios is probably the most famous beaches on the island and not for nothing. Its waters are crystal clear and its coast has a length of two kilometers. Its considered to be amongst the top beaches on Greece, and potentially in the whole Europe as well, and for that reason it is also the beach with the most tourists on the island.

And naturally, it is quite well organized as well, with a big number of hotels for you to pick for your accommodation, a great variety of restaurants, while the sea sports fans won’t get disappointed. It is quite a long distance from the main land, approximately 5 km’s, but  you can easily find local buses that can take you back and forth from the beach every half an hour, so even if you can’t afford  or simply don’t want to rent a vehicle, you can easily visit it, even on the night hours.

The Saint George beach

Share

The Saint George beach, named after a small chapel placed on a hill in the start of the beach, is the closest one to the port of Naxos. From any central point, it’s just a mere 10-15 minute walk from the first stores and shops in the port. It’s an ideal beach for families with small children or even babies, as the small distance from the centre of the mainland makes the transports much easier, and the swallow waters are perfect for small swimmers.

The buildings around the beach form a big hotel district, giving you a big variety for your accommodation, while the cafés and the restaurants are literally a few meters away from the beach.

The fans of sea sports can try out a variety of activities, while you can even try out horse riding. If you visit the beach with company, then don’t forget to witness one of most beautiful sunsets on the island, from the hill of the church.

Beaches of Naxos

Share

Like every other island in the Aegean Sea, Naxos is surrounded by many enchanting beaches that adorn its coastline. Many of them have been receiving the “Blue flag” award for many consecutive years. A great variety of them is waiting for you on this island, whether you are looking for a more organized and "touristic" beach, like the ones in Saint Prokopios or Saint Anna, or for something a bit more secluded, like Agiasos, or the Aliko beach.

Even if you are looking for something that is closer to the Chora, the capital of Naxos, and family friendly, especially for small kids, then the Saint George beach is ideal for you. Also, Naxos has some of the most windy coasts in Greece, and many surfers choose them as a destination to fight with the waves of the Aegean.
